Jillian Rae is a fiercely unique spirit\u2014 a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who cares more about making authentic music than about fitting into a tidy box. Although she got her start playing with folk and country bands, Rae\u2019s latest album I Can\u2019t Be the One You Want Me to Be (2019) took a decided turn into pop and rock with unflinching, hard-hitting songs. It also showcased her orchestration abilities with layered violin tracks saturated in heavy grooves and moody arrangements. The album\u2019s final track \u201cWayward One\u201d was featured prominently in the hit Chinese film The White Storm 2 and has catapulted her into near stardom in China.<\/p>\n

Lauded as a \u201ctriple threat on vocals, fiddle, and composition\u201d (Star Tribune), Jillian Rae has become known for her soaring pop orchestrations and is an in-demand producer and session player. Along with her partner\/co-producer Eric Martin, she runs a home studio in Minneapolis. During the pandemic, the studio became the hub for her weekly livestream performances and a space for her to write and record tracks for her next album. Never one to back down or give up, Rae is a natural-born performer who has always found a way to make music.<\/p>\n

Soren Staff and Beau Janke – co-founders of folk\/rock\/Americana outfit Them Coulee Boys – met as camp counselors in northern Wisconsin in 2011. Their weekend workshopping of Avett Brothers and classic country tunes led to original songs and adding Soren\u2019s brother Jens on mandolin. As the years grew, the band turned into a more rollicking outfit, adding Neil Krause on electric bass and Stas Hable on drums. The band\u2019s name is a nod to the glacial melt-carved river valleys they call home, known by early French fur trappers as coulees. Known for wild swings of emotion during sets, it is not unusual to see fans in tears and minutes later dancing with abandon. The honesty and ability to talk and sing about the feelings and emotions that shape them has endeared them to a growing group of fans and friends.<\/p>\n

With four full-length albums and an EP behind them, including 2019\u2019s Die Happy (produced byTrampled By Turtles\u2019 Dave Simonett on Lo-Hi Records) and 2021\u2019s Namesake (produced by Grammy winner Brian Joseph), the band has garnered international attention and earned press in American Songwriter, Ditty TV, Folk Alley, and The Bluegrass Situation, as well as tours with Trampled By Turtles, Los Lobos, Old Crow Medicine Show and a spot on the songwriter\u2019s Cayamo Cruise.<\/p>\n

2021\u2019s Namesake found the band following a new trajectory, combining their signature take on folk-grass and Americana with comfort on electric instruments and playing rock and roll. Sawtooth Witch is a genre bending artist that mixes acoustic fingerstyle harmonies with electronic inspired dance beats. Led by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Pat “Doc” Dougherty, (Elle PF \/ theyself \/ Bev \/ Fairfax, AK) their debut record was recorded by Holly Hansen at Salon Sonics in Minneapolis and mixed by Nat Harvie.<\/p>\n

It started as a search for a new sound. After touring for years as an independent musician Doc teamed up with friend and long-time musical collaborator Haley Fleming (Squares \/ Fairfax, AK) on fiddle and took inspiration from every page of the American songbook. Slowly but surely they found what they were looking for playing in the bars and taverns up and down Highway 61: a melting pot of Pop, Punk, Funk, Blues, R&B, and a little bit of House music with introspective, mantra-like lyrics.<\/p>\n

Sawtooth Witch is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This album is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.<\/p>\n

Death Valley Yacht Club is an Americana band from Duluth, Minnesota. Composed of singer-songwriters Charlie Jacobs and Alex Oberton, the two-piece band\u2019s signature sound features their intricate vocal harmonies over the interplay between their tightly-arranged acoustic guitars. Their original music takes inspiration from artists like The Beatles, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, and Jesse Welles. DVYC\u2019s music brings to mind the high and lonesome essence of bluegrass and modern folk music, having been compared to classic and beloved acts such as Simon and Garfunkel, The Milk Carton Kids, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their first album, \u201cDead Flowers\u201d, was published to various streaming services in April 2025.<\/p>\n

The Gully Boys origin story plays out like the perfect domino effect. While sorting vintage clothes in a Minneapolis-area thrift store in 2016, Kathy Callahan (she\/her) shared her dream of becoming a vocalist with their co-worker, Nadirah McGill (they\/them).After encouraging a friend from middle school, Natalie Klemond (she\/her), to join the trio on bass, Nadi picked up a pair of drumsticks and counted off a cover of Best Coast\u2019s \u201cGirlfriend.\u201d Gully Boys had officially been born. Having to master their instruments on the fly, the band’s sound grew quickly – taking inspiration from ’90s icons like No Doubt, Garbage, and Hole. After 2 years of relentless gigging, Gully Boys released a collection of demos, Not So Brave, in 2018, earning Best New Band honors from their hometown City Pages and sharing the stage with everyone from The Hold Steady to Third Eye Blind. The band\u2019s Phony EP arrived in late 2019 right as the live music industry came to a screeching halt.<\/p>\n

Inspired by this break in the action, the band started working with Zach Zurn at Carpet Booth Studio and added lead guitarist Mariah Mercedes. They released their first produced EP, Favorite Son (2021), followed by singles \u2018See You See\u2019 (2022) and \u2018Optimist\u2019 (2023).<\/p>\n

Throughout this aggressive release schedule, the band has continued gigging – appearing at official SXSW showcases and playing iconic stages across Minnesota including First Avenue\u2019s main stage, and across the nation, touring with artists Nova Twins, Motion City Soundtrack, and Bad Bad Hats.<\/p>\n
